Dale Rasco is a Texas native, songwriter, composer, and guitarist best known as the founder, primary songwriter, and lead guitarist of Distance of Thought. While recognized for his guitar work, Dale has always considered songwriting his true craft, approaching music from the perspective that melody, emotion, and storytelling must come before technicality.
Drawing inspiration from a remarkably diverse range of artists—including Fates Warning, Savatage, Dream Theater, Desmond Child, Elvis Presley, and Dion & The Belmonts—Dale has developed a songwriting style that blends progressive complexity with memorable hooks and timeless melodies. As he often says, “If it doesn’t have a melody you can sing along with, it’s not a song—it’s just a composition.”
Although largely self-taught during his formative years, Dale later refined his skills through studies with acclaimed guitarists Joel Gregoire, Rusty Cooley, and Shannon Hamm. The experience deepened his understanding of both technique and theory while reinforcing his creative philosophy: “Learn the rules so you know which ones can be bent.”
As the chief songwriter and guitarist for Distance of Thought, Dale has been the driving force behind the band's evolving sound, helping shape its blend of melodic songwriting, progressive arrangements, and cinematic storytelling. He can be heard throughout the band's debut album, Edge of Forever, as well as on his solo instrumental release, In-Flux, and Angels and Shadows, the 2019 release from Echo Temple.
Beyond Distance of Thought, Dale is also the founder, chief songwriter, and guitarist for EDEN-6, a melodic hard rock project that combines arena-sized hooks with modern musicianship. His work across multiple projects reflects a career-long commitment to crafting songs that resonate as deeply emotionally as they do musically.
Throughout his career, Dale has shared stages with and performed alongside an impressive roster of internationally recognized artists, including Dave Ellefson, Ronny Munroe, and James Rivera, while also collaborating with musicians from Leatherwolf, Z-Lot-Z, Destiny's End, and Outworld. He has additionally opened for legendary acts including Crimson Glory, Timo Tolkki, Infidel Rising, and Vicious Rumors, further cementing his reputation as a respected presence within the progressive and melodic metal communities.
Today, Dale continues to push forward as a songwriter, guitarist, and creative force, building on a catalog that spans progressive metal, melodic hard rock, instrumental music, and cinematic concept-driven works. Following Distance of Thought's recent signing with Astral Haven Records, he is currently writing and recording the band's highly anticipated follow-up release while continuing to expand his creative vision through EDEN-6 and other musical endeavors.
